Dick McTaggart
Olympic Champion in 1956, Richard 'Dick' McTaggart made his Commonwealth Games debut at the 1958 Games in Cardiff, winning gold in the Lightweight category. He then went on to win bronze at the 1960 Rome Olympics before making his second Commonwealth Games appearance and taking his second medal, with silver in the 1962 Games at Perth, this time competing in the Light Welterweight category. He went on the compete at the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo, becoming the first British boxer ever to compete at three Olympic Games.
His overall record was phenomenal, winning 610 of 634 amateur bouts. Alongside Commonwealth and Olympic glory he was crowned European champion in 1961 and won three ABA Lightweight titles and two Light Welterweight belts.
Dick remains Scotland's only Olympic Boxing champion to date. He was voted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2000 and was one of the inaugural inductees into the Scottish Sports Hall of Fame in 2002.
