Triathlon was a demonstration sport at the Auckland Games but did not make its full Games debut until 12 years later at Manchester 2002.
Judo was included for the first time, becoming Scotland’s most successful sport of the Games with eight medals.

No Medallists: 26 team members won a total of 22 medals across six sports. There were nine gold medallists – Liz McColgan, Charles Kane, Loretta Cusack, Willie Wood, George Adrain, Ian Bruce, Dennis Love, Jim Dunlop and Ian Marsden.
Top Male: Lawn Bowler Willie Wood struck gold in the Men’s Fours alongside George Adrain, Ian Bruce and Dennis Love to claim his fourth Commonwealth Games medal across four Games.
Top Female: Liz McColgan raced to gold in the 10,000m, defending the title she won in Edinburgh in 1986. She went on to claim a bronze medal in the 3,000m behind team mate Yvonne Murray.
Top Sport: Judo was Scotland’s top sport with one gold, three silver and four bronze medals.
Repeat Medallists: 7 athletes were repeat medallists – Liz McColgan, Tom McKean, Yvonne Murray, George Adrain, Richard Corsie, Willie Wood and Alan Ogilvie.
