In hosting the 1986 Games, Edinburgh became the first city ever to host the Commonwealth Games twice.
Scotland won at least one medal in every sport on the programme. This feat has never been repeated.
A double Commonwealth medallist, coming into the 1986 Games with silver in Edmonton in 1978 and bronze in Brisbane in 1982, wrestler Albert Patrick carried Scotland’s flag at both Opening and Closing Ceremonies. In competition he made it three medals in a row with a silver in the Over 100kg event.
