Andy made his Commonwealth Games debut for Team Scotland in Birmingham, finishing seventh in the 10,000m, after having had to withdraw from Gold Coast 2018 through injury.
A double Olympian, Andy finished sixth in the 5000m at Rio 2016 in a race won by Sir Mo Farah. He competed in the same event at Tokyo 2020, finishing 11th.
He holds Scottish records at 3000m and 5000m, breaking both long-standing records in the summer of 2016. In May of that year he broke Nat Muir's 36 year old 5000m record by four seconds before shaving a second off John Robson's 3000m best, set in 1984, the following month.
He became a father for the first time in October 2021 with partner Lynsey Sharp.
