Neil made his Commonwealth Games debut for Team Scotland in Birmingham 2022, finishing eighth in the Men's 1500m final. Earlier in 2022 he finished 6th in the 1500m final at the World Indoor Championships and made the semi-finals over the same distance at the World Championships in Eugene, USA.
He won a bronze medal at the 2015 European U23 Championship over 1500m and fourth two years later. In 2019 Neil reached the final at the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow, before having to withdraw, and finished 11th in the 1500m final at the World Championships that same year.
