Yvonne Murray
Yvonne Murray is one of Scotland’s most outstanding long distance runners, winning medals at the European Championships, Commonwealth Games, Olympics and World Championships.
She made her Commonwealth Games debut in Brisbane in 1982, finishing 1oth in both 3000m and 1500m. On home soil in Edinburgh in 1986 she won bronze in the 3,000m before going one better for silver four years later in Auckland. She finally struck gold at the 1994 Victoria Games, moving up in distance to 10,000m.
Her impressive medal haul also includes Olympic bronze over 3,000m in 1988, gold at the World Indoor Championships and a full set of gold, silver and bronze at the European Championship. She was named BBC Scotland Sports Personality of the Year in 1994.
