With the Opening Ceremony marking the official start of the Games tonight, 34 Scottish athletes begin their 2024 Olympic Games journey as part of Team GB in Paris, France.
A total of nine Scots will compete as part of the Team GB athletics team. Eilish McColgan, Jake Wightman, Jemma Reekie, Josh Kerr, Laura Muir, Neil Gourley, Nick Percy and Nicole Yeargin, who were all part of Team Scotland at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, have been named, as has Megan Keith who will make her Olympic debut in Paris.
Two-time Commonwealth Games medalist Kirsty Gilmour will compete with the Badminton team in her third Olympic Games.
The cycling squad is bolstered by three Scots: Charlie Aldridge, two-time Commonwealth Games silver medalist Jack Carlin and Neah Evans who won two medals at the 2018 Gold Coast Games and three medals at Birmingham 2022.
Equestrian Scott Brash will return to the Olympic Games for the first time since winning gold at the London 2012 Games.
Amy Costello, Charlotte Watson, Sarah Robertson and Lee Morton have been selected for the hockey squad. Rowan McKellar has been named as part of the rowing contingent for her second games, along with Sholto Carnegie who will also make his second Olympic appearance.
Lisa Thomson, who made her Olympic debut at the delayed Tokyo 2020 is the only Scot named in the Team GB Rugby 7s squad. Shooter Seonaid McIntosh will also compete in her second Olympic Games.
The sailing team sees the Scottish duo Fynn Sterritt and Anna Burnett, who was a finalist for the Sustainability in Scottish Sport award at the 2023 Scottish Sports Awards, included.
Tokyo gold medallists Duncan Scott and Kathleen Dawson return as part of Team GB’s swimming squad, joined by Lucy Hope, fifth in the 4x100m Freestyle relay in Tokyo, and Katie Shanahan and Keanna MacInnes who will make their Olympic debut. Grace Reid is the sole Scot named in the Team GB diving team.
In tennis, Andy Murray will compete in his final tournament after announcing his retirement from the sport earlier this week. He is joined by Cameron Norrie who will compete in his first Olympic Games.
After being selected as a reserve for Tokyo 2020, Rebecca McGowan will compete in her first Olympic Games in Taekwondo.
Finally, Triathlete Beth Potter, who made history at Gold Coast 2018 by becoming the first Team Scotland athlete to compete across two sports in the same Games, has been selected for Paris 2024, coming in as reigning World champion.
