Athletics
Athletics is a core sport in the Commonwealth Games and has featured on the sports programme of every Games since their inception in 1930. It is often considered the centrepiece of the Games and has more countries competing in it than any other sport on the Games programme.
Since the 2002 Manchester Games a number of Para-Sport events have been included in the Athletics programme for elite athletes with disabilities and Para-Athletics is also now a compulsory discipline in the Games.
Athletics is also a core sport for the Commonwealth Youth Games and is included each time the Games are held. Scottish athletes have won at least one medal in Athletics at every Youth Games to date.
All Athletics events are held in accordance with the rules and regulations of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and the Para-Sports events are held under IPC rules.
