Cricket is an optional sport on the Commonwealth Games programme and has made one appearance to date when a Men’s 50 overs per side event was held at Kuala Lumpur 1998. Sixteen teams entered the competition with South Africa winning gold ahead of Australia and New Zealand. The Caribbean islands that entered participated as separate nations not as a combined West Indies team.
Cricket will be included in the Birmingham 2022 Games in a Women’s T20 format featuring eight teams.
