Glasgow 2014 was such an amazing experience, a busy but fun time as part of the Team Scotland team. I’ll never forget running back and forward from the judo to the media centre with athlete quotes as Scotland won medal after medal! The athletics was fantastic to watch too. Seeing the whole crowd get behind the one decathlete left in the high jump as he jumped personal bests summed up the best of the Commonwealth Games atmosphere!
GillianProudly watching the opening ceremony as the Netball Scotland team came out whilst dressed in my Technical Officials uniform waiting on the moment I got the take part in The Best Games EVER!!!
DunnyStarted my volunteering journey at Glasgow 2014. I was a clydesider and joined an amazing team at the uniform and accreditation centre (kelvinhall). I still volunteer now as an events first aider (6 years)
Mary-Claire LavertyMy sister Angela Thomson and I volunteered at the bowls at Kelvingrove. We had an amazing experience. We were both scoreboard operators and met some lovely people from all over the world. I also said hello to Prince Edward and his wife Sophie when they paid a visit.
JulieIn late 2012 I became a Frontrunner volunteer helping to interview 25,000 potential Games time volunteers, the Clydesiders. From that initial involvement , so many wonderful opportunities developed. I was then selected as a Batonbearer Host for the Queen’s Baton Relay looking after so many truly memorable people across the length and breadth of Scotland on a journey lasting 42 days.
Those inspiring volunteer experiences led me into a world I never realised existed and I have now volunteered at many World sporting events in gymnastics, cycling, swimming and particularly athletics. I pop up at many sporting arenas, keeping them clean in my role as an anti-doping chaperone as well as other new and similarly interesting missions.
This week I begin my role in Paris for the Olympics; never did I imagine putting my hand up to volunteer would be such a wonderful experience that would present a fantastic personal legacy of volunteer opportunities and unique memories.
BrendanStarted off as a long-term volunteer before being offered a paid role within the transport team. The whole games were amazing and being part of the opening ceremony dress rehearsal was a highlight along with making a lot of good friends who I gave kept in touch with since the games
JoanneI was a Clydesider based at Glasgow Green for the hockey. It was an amazing time. The weather was Incredible, the atmosphere in the city was electric and I will never forget the people I met and the fun we had.
DebbieClydesider at Barry Buddon, and managed to catch the gymnastics too. Loved being able to attend the opening ceremony rehearsal too with my daughter. Fantastic memories xx
LindaI was one of the organisers who fundraised to get the UAC Clyde statue to Glasgow Children’s Hospital. We ended up being Gifted the statue so all the money raised (£6060) was also donated to the hospital.
KimThe weather was glorious had the best time ever as a technical official at the netball the ten days were the best ever. Hard work but great experience The games were magical . The best games ever Glasgow was buzzing the atmosphere was electric…proud to have been a part of 2014 🏴
JacsI don’t think I have seen so much festivity concentrated in one venue with my own eye. All with Her Majesty watching in there too! After watching London Olympics, I jumped at the chance to get involved – but couldn’t be a Clydesider. My sister became one instead!
It was awesome. the Games themselves were a megahit. Being in the stadium was fantastic and the display was something I do not think will be repeated again! I was glad to be here.
I was a Clydesider at Scotstoun where I met the love of my life whilst volunteering as part of the medical team and he was working with the Scottish ambulance service at the games. We met over a game of table tennis!! Since the games we are now married (with the Clyde mascot as our VIP wedding guest!😂) and have twin boys. An opportunity that changed both our lives forever❤️

I was part of the Arrivals and Departure Clydesider team at Glasgow Airport. I met wonderful people during the games, still 10 years on, we are great friends and regularly volunteers at other events together. Even been on holiday together.
Samantha RamsayWas in the lucky position that I was able to get to an event every day of the games. I love my sport. Personal highlights seeing Darren Burnett win gold in bowls, Libby Clegg winning gold in the 100m and seeing the GOAT Usain Bolt winning gold with the Jamaican relay team.
A great time for Glasgow

Elaine MarshallWalking from the village to parkhead was incredible. Supporters lined up along the fences cheering us all on. Then walking out and around the tartan track was a dream come true!

RoseannaI was a volunteer at Glasgow Airport and loved every moment when on shift. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming and we had the best time ever. I meet my 2 best friends Elizabeth and Samantha and I also was lucky to get an Apprenticeship via the games.
AndrewWas a Clydesider as part of the photo team at the Weightlifting in the Clyde Auditorium aka Armadillo.
Memory that always sticks in my mind came from the +105kg Men’s Final A in Weightlifting. The athlete representing Tuvalu walked out onto the stage for their final attempt to stay in the competition, and as the crowd fell silent, this tiny voice from the stage called out asking Glasgow to help.
And as he started his lift, the crowd gave it laldy, giving him all the support they could. Sadly he was unable to complete the lift but to hear the support and see what it meant to athlete was truly a special moment
